How can I retrieve my OSSA Explorer's key code to make a spare key?

Hello! We've developed a VIN-based tool to help you get your key code for the OSSA Explorer. Check it out here: VIN Key Code Generator.

Been stuck with my OSSA Explorer for weeks. This might be the fix.

I have a 2011 OSSA Explorer, will this method work for that year?

I tried this with my OSSA Explorer but still no luck. Any suggestions?

Will this work for older OSSA Explorers? Mine's a 2009.

🔑 Car Key & Fob FAQ

Common questions about key programming, fob issues, and replacement options

Key Programming
Programming syncs the key's transponder chip with your car's immobilizer system. The process varies by manufacturer but generally involves: 1) authenticating with the car's computer 2) erasing old keys if needed 3) programming new key codes 4) testing functionality.
Key Tip: Newer cars often require dealer programming for first key replacement
Key Fob Issues
1) Find the seam and pry open the fob (some have tiny screws) 2) Note battery orientation 3) Remove old battery (CR2032 is most common) 4) Insert new battery 5) Reassemble. Test all buttons - if issues remain, the fob may need reprogramming.
Key Tip: Replace key fob batteries every 1-2 years as preventative maintenance
Cost & Options
1) Always have at least 2 working keys 2) Get spares made before losing originals 3) Consider key insurance/add-on coverage 4) Store key codes safely 5) Use protective cases for smart keys 6) Program new keys before old ones fail completely.
Key Fob Issues
Many cars have a resync procedure: 1) Press lock/unlock buttons while near the car 2) Insert key and turn ignition on/off in a specific pattern 3) Use a sequence of button presses. Check your manual for exact steps - procedures vary widely by manufacturer.
Cost & Options
Locksmiths are typically 30-50% cheaper than dealerships for key replacement and programming. However, some newer models (especially luxury brands) may require dealer-only programming tools. Always get quotes from both.
Key Tip: Keep spare keys in a faraday bag to prevent signal amplification theft
Key Fact: Modern transponder keys have been required in all new US vehicles since 1998
