Where do dealerships get the key code to program MercedesBenz S420 keys?

Hello! We've developed a VIN-based tool to help you get your key code for the MercedesBenz S420. Check it out here: VIN Key Code Generator.

Looking for the same thing for my MercedesBenz S420, hope someone can help.

My MercedesBenz S420 is basically useless until I get this code. Fingers crossed.

I’m in the same boat with my MercedesBenz S420. This looks promising.

Hope this method is better than the last one I tried on my MercedesBenz S420.

Where exactly do you find the key code on a MercedesBenz S420?

This looks helpful for those of us with a locked-out MercedesBenz S420.

🔑 Car Key & Fob FAQ

Common questions about key programming, fob issues, and replacement options

Key Fob Issues
Sometimes. Broken buttons can often be fixed by cleaning or replacing the button pad. Cracked cases can be glued. However, water damage or circuit board issues usually require complete fob replacement. Reprogramming is still needed for replacement fobs.
Key Tip: Avoid exposing key fobs to water or extreme temperatures
Key Fob Issues
Many cars have a resync procedure: 1) Press lock/unlock buttons while near the car 2) Insert key and turn ignition on/off in a specific pattern 3) Use a sequence of button presses. Check your manual for exact steps - procedures vary widely by manufacturer.
Key Fob Issues
1) Find the seam and pry open the fob (some have tiny screws) 2) Note battery orientation 3) Remove old battery (CR2032 is most common) 4) Insert new battery 5) Reassemble. Test all buttons - if issues remain, the fob may need reprogramming.
Key Tip: Store your key code separately from your keys
Key Fob Issues
Common causes: dead battery (most common), water damage, internal circuit damage, or the fob lost synchronization with your car. Try replacing the battery first. If that doesn't help, the fob may need reprogramming or replacement.
Lost Keys
1) Contact a locksmith who specializes in automotive keys or your dealership 2) Provide proof of ownership (registration, title, ID) 3) They'll either cut new keys by code or reprogram your car's system 4) This is expensive ($200-$800) as the immobilizer may need resetting.
Key Fact: The average driver will lose 1-2 car keys during ownership
