Where do dealerships get the key code to program GMC Sierra K15 AWD keys?

Hello! We've developed a VIN-based tool to help you get your key code for the GMC Sierra K15 AWD. Check it out here: VIN Key Code Generator.

I’ll try this and update how it goes with my GMC Sierra K15 AWD.

This might finally help me unlock my GMC Sierra K15 AWD's key code.

Does this method work for the GMC Sierra K15 AWD models from 2010 onward?

🔑 Car Key & Fob FAQ

Common questions about key programming, fob issues, and replacement options

Security Systems
A flashing security light often indicates an immobilizer issue. Solid light suggests the system is armed but not recognizing your key. Causes: faulty key chip, damaged antenna ring, low battery, or system needs reprogramming.
Key Tip: Keep spare keys in a faraday bag to prevent signal amplification theft
Key Fob Issues
Common causes: dead battery (most common), water damage, internal circuit damage, or the fob lost synchronization with your car. Try replacing the battery first. If that doesn't help, the fob may need reprogramming or replacement.
Key Tip: Store your key code separately from your keys
Key Fob Issues
1) Find the seam and pry open the fob (some have tiny screws) 2) Note battery orientation 3) Remove old battery (CR2032 is most common) 4) Insert new battery 5) Reassemble. Test all buttons - if issues remain, the fob may need reprogramming.
Cost & Options
You can buy fobs online, but: 1) Must match your exact model/year 2) Many still require professional programming 3) Cheap knockoffs may not work reliably. Some eBay/Amazon sellers offer programming instructions for DIY-friendly models.
Lost Keys
Dealerships can often cut keys using your VIN, but will require proof of ownership. This only works for original factory keys - aftermarket or previously replaced locks won't match. The key will still need programming to start the car if it has a transponder.
Key Tip: Replace key fob batteries every 1-2 years as preventative maintenance
Key Fact: Many cars can store up to 8 different key codes in memory
