Where's the key code located to program keys for my Dodge Dakota?

Hello! We've developed a VIN-based tool to help you get your key code for the Dodge Dakota. Check it out here: VIN Key Code Generator.

Dealer wants too much just to reset my Dodge Dakota. Trying this instead.

This forum is more helpful than my dealer. Thanks from a Dodge Dakota owner.

My Dodge Dakota just sits silent—hoping this changes that.

I’m also looking for how to retrieve the key code on a Dodge Dakota.

🔑 Car Key & Fob FAQ

Common questions about key programming, fob issues, and replacement options

Lost Keys
Dealerships can often cut keys using your VIN, but will require proof of ownership. This only works for original factory keys - aftermarket or previously replaced locks won't match. The key will still need programming to start the car if it has a transponder.
Cost & Options
1) Always have at least 2 working keys 2) Get spares made before losing originals 3) Consider key insurance/add-on coverage 4) Store key codes safely 5) Use protective cases for smart keys 6) Program new keys before old ones fail completely.
Security Systems
Not recommended. Bypassing requires specialized knowledge and may violate anti-theft laws. Proper solutions: 1) Get correctly programmed keys 2) Replace faulty immobilizer components 3) Have dealer reset the system if keys are lost.
Key Tip: Some locksmiths offer mobile key programming services
Key Programming
Most transponder keys and smart keys can be reprogrammed if they haven't been damaged. Basic mechanical-only keys (no chip) can't be reprogrammed - they must be physically cut to match your locks.
