Where's the key code stored on a BMW S1000R for programming keys?

Hello! We've developed a VIN-based tool to help you get your key code for the BMW S1000R. Check it out here: VIN Key Code Generator.

This trick worked for my buddy's BMW S1000R. Giving it a go myself.

Desperate to get my BMW S1000R running again. Trying this tonight.

Waiting to see if this will work on my BMW S1000R as well.

🔑 Car Key & Fob FAQ

Common questions about key programming, fob issues, and replacement options

Cost & Options
Some comprehensive auto policies cover key replacement, often with a deductible. Homeowner's insurance may cover keys lost away from home. Always check your policy details - coverage varies widely. Claims may increase your rates.
Key Tip: Keep spare keys in a faraday bag to prevent signal amplification theft
Key Programming
Common reasons: wrong key type for your vehicle, anti-theft system needs reset, low car battery voltage during programming, or the key isn't properly synced. Some cars also have programming limits (only 2-4 keys can be registered).
Lost Keys
Costs vary widely: Basic keys: $50-$150, Transponder keys: $150-$300, Smart keys/fobs: $200-$800, Dealership replacements typically cost 20-50% more than locksmiths. Emergency/lockout service adds $50-$150.
Key Programming
Most transponder keys and smart keys can be reprogrammed if they haven't been damaged. Basic mechanical-only keys (no chip) can't be reprogrammed - they must be physically cut to match your locks.
Lost Keys
Dealerships can often cut keys using your VIN, but will require proof of ownership. This only works for original factory keys - aftermarket or previously replaced locks won't match. The key will still need programming to start the car if it has a transponder.
Key Fact: Modern transponder keys have been required in all new US vehicles since 1998
