How do I retrieve the key code for my 2015 Kia Forte to program a key?

Hello! We've developed a VIN-based tool to help you get your key code for the 2015 Kia Forte. Check it out here: VIN Key Code Generator.

Bookmarking this for when I work on my 2015 Kia Forte this weekend.

Trying this on my 2015 Kia Forte later. Will report back.

I think my 2015 Kia Forte has the same issue. Good to know I'm not alone.

Anyone try this on a 2015 Kia Forte with push-button start?

Wish I found this thread before towing my 2015 Kia Forte.

I have the same 2015 Kia Forte and I'm also trying to find the key code.

🔑 Car Key & Fob FAQ

Common questions about key programming, fob issues, and replacement options

Key Fob Issues
Common causes: dead battery (most common), water damage, internal circuit damage, or the fob lost synchronization with your car. Try replacing the battery first. If that doesn't help, the fob may need reprogramming or replacement.
Key Tip: Keep spare keys in a faraday bag to prevent signal amplification theft
Lost Keys
Dealerships can often cut keys using your VIN, but will require proof of ownership. This only works for original factory keys - aftermarket or previously replaced locks won't match. The key will still need programming to start the car if it has a transponder.
Key Tip: Replace key fob batteries every 1-2 years as preventative maintenance
Key Fob Issues
1) Find the seam and pry open the fob (some have tiny screws) 2) Note battery orientation 3) Remove old battery (CR2032 is most common) 4) Insert new battery 5) Reassemble. Test all buttons - if issues remain, the fob may need reprogramming.
Key Tip: Newer cars often require dealer programming for first key replacement
Lost Keys
Locksmiths or dealers can: 1) Decode your door or ignition lock to determine key cuts 2) Access your car's key code through manufacturer databases (with proof of ownership) 3) Program new transponder keys using diagnostic equipment.
Key Tip: Consider key insurance for expensive smart keys
Key Fob Issues
Many cars have a resync procedure: 1) Press lock/unlock buttons while near the car 2) Insert key and turn ignition on/off in a specific pattern 3) Use a sequence of button presses. Check your manual for exact steps - procedures vary widely by manufacturer.
Key Tip: Avoid exposing key fobs to water or extreme temperatures
Key Fact: Some insurance policies offer key replacement coverage
