How can I retrieve my 2014 Subaru BRZ's key code to make a spare key?

Hello! We've developed a VIN-based tool to help you get your key code for the 2014 Subaru BRZ. Check it out here: VIN Key Code Generator.

Does this method work for the 2014 Subaru BRZ models from 2010 onward?

Appreciate any advice—my 2014 Subaru BRZ won’t recognize the key.

Waiting to see if this will work on my 2014 Subaru BRZ as well.

🔑 Car Key & Fob FAQ

Common questions about key programming, fob issues, and replacement options

Key Fob Issues
Sometimes. Broken buttons can often be fixed by cleaning or replacing the button pad. Cracked cases can be glued. However, water damage or circuit board issues usually require complete fob replacement. Reprogramming is still needed for replacement fobs.
Key Fob Issues
Common causes: dead battery (most common), water damage, internal circuit damage, or the fob lost synchronization with your car. Try replacing the battery first. If that doesn't help, the fob may need reprogramming or replacement.
Lost Keys
1) Contact a locksmith who specializes in automotive keys or your dealership 2) Provide proof of ownership (registration, title, ID) 3) They'll either cut new keys by code or reprogram your car's system 4) This is expensive ($200-$800) as the immobilizer may need resetting.
Key Tip: Always have at least two working keys to avoid expensive replacements
Lost Keys
Dealerships can often cut keys using your VIN, but will require proof of ownership. This only works for original factory keys - aftermarket or previously replaced locks won't match. The key will still need programming to start the car if it has a transponder.
Key Fob Issues
Many cars have a resync procedure: 1) Press lock/unlock buttons while near the car 2) Insert key and turn ignition on/off in a specific pattern 3) Use a sequence of button presses. Check your manual for exact steps - procedures vary widely by manufacturer.
Key Fact: Modern transponder keys have been required in all new US vehicles since 1998
