Where's the key code stored in a 2011 Ford Explorer for making new keys?

Hello! We've developed a VIN-based tool to help you get your key code for the 2011 Ford Explorer. Check it out here: VIN Key Code Generator.

Same issue here with my 2011 Ford Explorer, let me know if it works.

Anyone have luck with this on a 2015 2011 Ford Explorer?

My 2011 Ford Explorer's key code has been a nightmare. Trying this now.

Does this method work for the 2011 Ford Explorer models from 2010 onward?

🔑 Car Key & Fob FAQ

Common questions about key programming, fob issues, and replacement options

Key Programming
Common reasons: wrong key type for your vehicle, anti-theft system needs reset, low car battery voltage during programming, or the key isn't properly synced. Some cars also have programming limits (only 2-4 keys can be registered).
Key Programming
Some vehicles allow DIY key programming using specific sequences (like turning ignition on/off with original keys). However, most modern cars require specialized equipment only locksmiths or dealers have. Check your owner's manual for your specific model.
Key Tip: Replace key fob batteries every 1-2 years as preventative maintenance
Key Programming
Professional key programming requires: diagnostic tools to access the immobilizer system, key code software, transponder programmers, and often proprietary manufacturer equipment. Some locksmiths and all dealers have these tools.
Cost & Options
Quality aftermarket keys work well for most vehicles at lower cost. However, some luxury brands use proprietary technology only available through dealers. For expensive cars, OEM may be worth the extra cost for reliability.
Security Systems
An anti-theft system that prevents the engine from starting unless it detects the correct transponder chip in the key. The chip sends a unique code to the car's computer when you turn the ignition. No match = no start, even with a physically matching key.
Key Fact: Modern transponder keys have been required in all new US vehicles since 1998
